Gallery Players Family Matinee Show- 11/14/2010

This weekend we had some GREAT scenes- The teams were Shaundra nd Emlyn as "The Quibblers", and Laura and Bones as "Red We Guess". Did you know there's an inside joke there?
We had scenes in the desert, in Antarctica scenes about first dates and fantastical prison break!

Here are some pics:

P.S.- The inside joke is that Laura and Bones are married, and their last name is Rodriguez.
Since they were on the RED team, "Red We Guess" is a play on their teams' color and their names- we are SOOOO CLEVER, huh?

Freestyle Repertory Theatre- Tag Team Monologue "Vegetables"

Mike Durkin and Diego Carvajal do a Tag-Team Monologue (apparently about vegetables?), outdoors for a group at a neighborhood city garden. Ahh, New York City!!

I believe this was taken by a camera phone by someone in the audience; I just happened to find it on YouTube, so I posted it!

Young Audiences New Jersey Interviews Freestyle Repertory Theatre...

About Young Audiences New Jersey:
It's a fact. Learning in and through the arts prepares children for success in school and life. Creativity and innovation, both of which are developed by experiences in the arts, are more and more valued by employers. True leaders and problem solvers embody those traits. Your students should too.

An arts-rich education provides a child with the ability to look beyond facts and figures and creatively meet new challenges as they arise. Plus, the arts make learning fun, providing an environment varied and compelling enough to engage even the most reluctant learners and providing day-dreamers with a classroom as rich as their imagination.

We are super-proud to be one of Young Audience New Jersey's most popular artists!

Sunday at The Gallery Players...

We had a blast at the show at The Gallery Players in Brooklyn this weekend.
We had some great kids come up and do scenes with us. They included improv scenes about a copy store, tyrannosaurus rex, splitting and becoming two people, a sit-stand-kneel about a prom dress, and of course, a Biography!
Here are a few pictures:

Freestyle Repertory Theatre- Soundscape- Ice Skating Rink

Laura Valpey Rodriguez does the acting while Mike Durkin does the sounds off stage with a microphone. The two members off Freestyle work together using the rules of Improvisation to create a scene and a story. Can you tell who's following whom? Me either!

Also at the same fourth grade school show in Brooklyn

Freestyle Repertory Theatre- Setting Set Up- "Candy Factory"

Mike and Laura are doing Improv Workshops for kids for the 4th graders in this Brooklyn school, so we did a show that incorporated some of the lessons they had learned. The girl comes up and does a wonderful job of saying "YES" to the scene, and she gives it the perfect ending- Watch:

Wasn't she great? The kids at this school learned a lot from our assembly (as they always do), but the best part is that they didn't realize it!

Freestyle Repertory Theatre- Arms Through Expert: "Six Flags"

We did a show last week in Brooklyn for some 4th graders who, Laura and Mike teach improv to. These kids were pretty on the ball, and as I show you in this clip, the kids playing our arms TOTALLY worked their magic, and I'll be putting another clip up soon. Notice that they know the two rules of Improvisation" Always say "Yes" and Always make your partner look good.
Of course with me as your partner- it's easy ;-)

The later clip will be from the same show...

Freestyle Repertory Theatre- Family Matinees

This week, we performed TheatreSports at The Gallery Players theatre in Brooklyn. Freestyle Repertory Theatre loves to do these family shows, because they are different EVERYTIME, and we get to use the audience. There's a great feeling for collaboration between the families and the company, and we always have a great time:

I re-cut the promo video...

After a brainstorming Breakfast, we decide to re-cut the video, make a separate "unofficial" website, and really start looking for people who will enjoy our shows. Watch the new video, and see the new site:

And CLICK HERE or on the Light bulb on the right to see the new site!

Backstage before a show...

Bones took this video right before our show... see how professional he is?
